Fordhall in Summer

The return of woodland adventure camps!
Summer is officially here, and the weather certainly seems to have taken notice! Indeed the heat and the sunny days are attracting the trail wanderers and the picnickers – and though while this may be a pleasant break from the classic British weather, our foggage system means we still need a spritzing.
Following the Foggage farming system, the cattle and sheep live their whole life outdoors on the pastures – for this reason we need the rain to ensure sufficient grass growth to feed our livestock. They also rely on a full canopy of leaves, as trees provide them with shelter and shade on the hotter days. Recently, we herded a flock of sheep into the woodland, where they would graze down any extra growth, in readiness for school and residential visits. This was a more climate friendly than using mowers – and cheaper too!
Excitingly, this summer the woodlands won’t just host schools and sheep, but a gaggle of campers too! Following the demand for places last year, the popular ‘Adventure Camps’ are returning to the farm. Including overnight stays, these exciting, activity packed events help to get older children out and enjoying the outdoor world. Activities can include anything from outdoor cooking, to slacklining, to building your won shelters! We will be announcing dates and bookings on our social media and website soon.
We are also proud to once again be taking part in the Shropshire Love Nature Festival, which works with local organisations and groups, to put on events which connect people with nature. Previously, we have welcomed people to site to create landscape art, go habitat hunting, and even try some edible bugs! Keep an eye on our social media and website for our event announcements.
Don’t forget, the farm itself is free to access for a visit and a wander – our parking, walking trails and play areas are all free for the public to access! We are excited to welcome you all for the summer months.
