Caring for the environment doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your time away – quite the opposite in fact! There is a whole industry which revolves around making planet-kind breaks a possibility. At the heart of it, eco-tourism aims to reduce the human impact travel has upon the world around us. Partaking in practises which promote sustainability, hosts take steps from sourcing products from local suppliers, to using natural building materials and even cycling profits back into environmental projects. It’s even more environmentally friendly if you stay closer to home, so don’t discount a short break on your doorstep-  Fordhall Farm is a world of its own to enjoy and discover!

On the farm, for many years now we have welcomed visitors to our off-grid glamping yurts – enjoying no neighbours but the livestock and wildlife. Despite being Mongolian in style, they were locally made in Shropshire, and feature domed roof skylights – we highly recommend stargazing as light pollution is very limited!

If the off-grid element makes you a little nervous – worry not. The yurts are full setup to make the whole experience comfortable and peaceful, with a full living and dining area, double bedroom with additional bunk beds, gas barbecue and fridge, and compost toilet (though normal loos are available in the main building if this is a step too far!).

The summer months are a wonderful time on the farm, and the perfect time to pay a visit, with our ponds and the River Tern hosting both dragonflies and demoiselles, and several species of butterfly, including orange tips, peacocks and tortoiseshells exploring the wildflower blooms. After the wet few months we have had, the buttercups are particularly prevalent.

The yurts are available to book year-round though, so don’t think you just have to limit yourself to a summer visit. We have even had visitors settle in when the snow is ankle deep! Fortunately, there is also a built-in log burner for just such an occasion.  Sleeping up to 6 people, the yurts are also a great option for visiting friends and family if you don’t have the space at home.

All availability for 2024 can be found at: www.fordhallfarm.com/glamping-in-shropshire-yurts/

Whether you’re coming for a day visit, a quick cuppa or are staying overnight with us,we’re looking forward to welcoming you back to the farm soon!
